One of the first flowers to bloom is this beautiful small saxifraga species – Saxifraga oppositifolia, named “winterflower” in Icelandic, since it blooms from late March to May. A very nice token of spring, when stumbled across on hiking tours in the mountains.
Rock Belgisteinn
This rock – Belgisteinn (steinn = rock) reminds me always of the good old fellow Snoopy, specially from one side in the summer, when a brush of grass grows on top on it and makes it a bit hairy.
This rather big rock was left here at around 10.000 years ago by the melting glacier, resting on a glacier scraped basalt lava layer.
