West-Guide Þórunn Reykdal

This rock – Belgisteinn (steinn = rock) reminds me always of the good old fellow Snoopy, specially from one side in the summer, when a brush of grass grows on top on it and makes it a bit hairy.

This rather big rock was left here at around 10.000 years ago by the melting glacier, resting on a glacier scraped basalt lava layer.

In Borgarnes there is this beautiful monument of Thorgerdur Brak, a Celtic bondswoman and a servantat at the household of the settler Kveld-Ulfur  (Night-Wolf). She fostered and perhaps nursed his son Egill Skallagrimsson, when he was an infant and she gave her life when she protected him when he was a young man.
